Have I been HACKED?!?!?
Ok. I did something against my better judgement, and I think I may be paying the price.
Question: Is there a way for people to load some kind of a virus/bug/hack onto my machine through the game? Details: I was trying to buy a sword from a guy (MAX Gold perf). Should've cost in the neighborhood of 50k. He said he had another account with a character that had alot of gold, and wanted to transfer that gold to his present account. If I would help him, he'd sell me the sword for 20k. I know, I know... Alarms, Bells, Whistles... the works. Anyway, like I said before, agaist my better judgement, I agreed. He changed to this other char, opened a trade window, handed me like 84k, and said to hold it until he got back to me with his previous char. A minute later, he opens a trade window with original char, I hand him back the 84k, then he sells me the sword for 20k. Ever since then, when I try to trade with people, I get a ton of lag... they say hang on just a sec, and then they back out of trade. Today I noticed that alot of my stacks of crafting materials are empty. Am I getting ripped off? |

I don't know how it could happen, but maybe there's a new hack. It certainly is suspicious that someone would trust you with 84k like that.

there is no way to hack from the client side like that unless they are really smart or sumthing, another thing is if they were able to do that, why would they only xfer 84k when if they are hacking they should have 1000k, but i think your just experiancing lag from the week event and as for the mats, maybe you havnt checked them in a while cuz your character(s) are mxed already and you didnt noticed the shortage
ooh and sum people are trusting like that, mostly in the younger group range Last edited by Commander Ryker; Feb 16, 2008 at 01:31 AM // 01:31.. |

I suppose you're right. I think I'm just having a paranoid episode because I knew better than to do something like that, and it's something I normally would never do.
As a test, I opened a trade window with a guildmate, and he said he didn't see anything wierd, so who knows... |

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong for helping the person out who has two different GW account, but only has one PC to work with. You're account issues maybe of other reasons besides that transaction. Unless hackers have found a way to exploit and steal account info from in game trading, which would mean the end of the world as we know it (GW anyway). Update your anti-virus software, run ad-aware removal, and change your GW account's password along with your associated e-mail's password (using different pw for both) asap.

Doesn't seem to be the guy's fault, or even your fault for that matter. It could've been a lagspike, maybe your antivirus decided to update then... could be a lot of stuff to make your computer or connection lag. Happens often.
About your mats though... kinda weird. I'd suggest watching if other stuff disappear in your account and if it does, there might be a hacking problem. I'd change my password for security measures though. |

People back out of trades all the time. They want an item, and then say they don't want it after you've lowered the price even below what they ask. That's not anything new. People are just idiots, and waffle all the time, and try to get you to sell for an outrageously low price.
When it comes to your mats, I think someone hacked your account and is taking things daily. I doubt it has anything to do with that trade, though. Write to Anet and call it a bug, have them investigate. But... maybe it's Karma? |
